Hi guys: throwing out a question to the group on how your company handles
the following scenario:
- Repairable pump breaks down
- Work Order created - it's decided to send out the pump for repair,
and reinstalled after that.
- While the pump is out for repair, that part of the plant is down -
so this is NOT a swap-out scenario.
- First the internal labor needs to remove the pump
- Then the pump needs to be sent for repair
- After the pump is returned from repair, it needs to be re-installed
by the internal labor
The problems we are having are:
1. If the planner puts a repair service on the Plan tab, and the work
order is approved, then the service shows up on Direct Issue Reorder.
Because the pump hasn't been removed yet, the PO sits around, which could be
a week or more.
2. The Scheduler needs to schedule when the internal labor is going to
put the pump back into the location. But since this is a service receipt,
the work order doesn't change status when the repair is ordered or the
repaired pump is received.
3. What Required Date should be on the PO? Normally it would be the
date that they want to reinstall the pump, but what happens if there's a
delay sending it to the vendor? Not to mention: the first question from
the vendor would be "when is it going to be sent here?" and when the PO is
cut, that may not be known since the first part of the job hasn't been
scheduled.
Comments/input anyone?

You'll need to manage #2 with workflow, or something to catch the PO being cut and the receipt occurring. #1 isn't a problem, it's a fact of purchasing life.
#3 is one heck of a lead time to compute. You'd have to look at the removal task completion date, add your own packaging-handling time, then figure your normal lead time from there.
I guess with automation scripting nothing is impossible anymore.
