RE: [MAXIMO List] Mx75, Communication Problem with the Server

From: Lon Stone (2012-10-03 17:06)

I have several clients on 7502 & 7503 without messing with that parameter.
1. What WebSphere version ( assuming WebSphere )
2. Is your network ipv4 or ipv6?
3. Can you send your generic jvm argument listing.
Thank you

Subject: [MAXIMO List] Mx75, Communication Problem with the Server

I'm looking for some information from anyone who is currently running Maximo 7.5 in production with asynchronous validation turned on.
We are currently in the process of upgrading from 7118 to 7503 and are in the internal testing phase. On a few occasions, our testers have received an error message in the application " There was a communication problem with the server which will result in the loss of some of your changes. You must reload the application and re-enter the information again." We put in a PMR and received a reference to this document.

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21595657

I'm concerned at this point because we've seen this error with only one or two testers on the application, internally with the users at the same facility as the server (meaning fast network). Our WAN is not the most stable or fast in the world and we do have some users in some very remote areas where bandwidth is a serious concern. I'm wondering if this is likely to be a big problem in the real world with bandwidth constraints.
I'd like to know if anyone out there on 7.5 has run into this issue and if so how frequently. Also if anyone has tweaked the timeout setting referenced I'd love to hear what your experience was with that.

Thanks!

Lon,
1. WAS 7.0.0.23
2. IPv4
3. -Dsun.rmi.dgc.ackTimeout=10000 -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Dmxe.name=<servername> -Xmn640m -Xgcpolicy:gencon
Are any of your clients running with users that are extremely geographically dispersed? If so do any of them run on poor performing WAN connections?
Thanks!
