Process:
Create an item number for the laptop.
Set the item as Rotating
Add it to a storeroom
Reference the item number on a Purchase Order
Upon receipt ootb behavior will create asset numbers
You can receive all 100 in the storeroom and then enter the serial numbers....or when you issue one, then create the receipt, which will create the asset number.
I'm not sure if you can receipt the item into a location other than the storeroom but you can look at that and see if you can chose a location other than the storeroom, or you may be able to set the item up as direct issue on the PO....not sure about that unless I log into Maximo and test it...but you can try that.
If you don't want to do the above ootb process then you could also use an Asset Template to automatically create the Asset.
Asset Templates are available in 7.x (I think 7.5)....only available with the Transportation add on in previous versions!
