Upgrade with change DBMS

From: Elberte Pongelupe (2012-06-19 17:24)

Dear all,
Someone has migrated a Maximo database 7.1 of IBM DB2 to MS-SQL Server?
I have a customer who needs to upgrade from version 7.1 to version 7.5. But he also wants to change the database from DB2 to SQL Server.
I think the best way would be to migrate the database to SQL Server and after perform the upgrade. However, there are several settings in TPAE concerning the DBMS, such sequences, triggers, etc ...
Perhaps the best way would be to install a CORE product in version 7.5 and migrate data from IBM DB2 to SQL Server using the maximo integration framework (MIF).
Let me know what you think about ...
Thanks, Elberte.

Hi,
Back before 4.1.1 we moved from SQL Base to SQL Server. At that time PSDI (later renamed MRO then purchased by IBM) sold conversion software. Maybe IBM has some software.
You could try what you suggested.

One thing worth looking at is the Unlcvt.bat file in the tools\maximo\internal directory.
This allows you to "export" your maximo data in a different database format. Basically it creates a file similar to the one they use for MAXDEMO but using your database. I believe you then use MAXINST pointing to the file that was created as the source file to use (instead of MAXDEMO).
There is potentially some "cleanup" you may have to do afterwards, but could be a real time saver.

Thanks Sean Clark. I'll test this option.
