Tivoli Common Reporting (TCR) 2.1 with Maximo 7.5

From: Ron Scott (2012-10-22 03:10)

Currently reviewing all reporting tool options available for use in Maximo 7.5 as our organization is in the process of upgrading from 6.2.5 to 7.5.  I was wondering if anyone has successfully deployed TCR 2.1 and can help me with the configuration requirements between Cognos and Maximo.  I've followed the base information in the IBM documentation but I haven't had success in getting the 2 applications to recognize each other.  Any help provided would be greatly appreciated.

From: Orb Maximo (2012-10-22 12:23)

I have completed the integration and used the PDF found here
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21584395 - although I used
TCR 2.1.1 rather than TCR 2.1. I would recommend that you read the complete
guide before starting the integration as there is useful information
throughout that will help you to make decisions during the integration
process

Still having issues with making this integration work. Either I've missed something in the configuration per the document downloaded or there is really more to the integration than it shows. Running both on windows 2008 R2 servers against an Oracle database. I follow the steps outlined in the document and get stuck at paragraph 7 when I attempt to launch the cognos administration console via the link in Maximo 7.5. For some reason its not resolving this connection and returns Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. I don't believe it authenicating correctly or I'm having some type of issue with my ports on the servers being used.
Anyone else got any ideas.

Where is your TCR server installed relative to Maximo? Are they on the same
server or different servers? If they are on different servers you will need
to install the Oracle client local to the TCR server and configure TNSNAMES
accordingly
What URL is being generated when you attempt to launch Cognos
Administration?

I have just completed configuring TCR 2.1.1 with Maximo &.5 in pretty much
the same environment setup (TCR, Maximo and database on different servers),
but using DB2 instead of Oracle.

If it is an authentication issue are you receiving any Cognos error messages
(e.g. CAM-AAA-0034)?
Is there anything in the Cognos log file? Default location is
/opt/IBM/tivoli/tipv2Components/TCRComponent/cognos/logs/cogserver.log on
UNIX, so presumably C:\Program Files\IBM\etc. on Windows)
Also check the TCR log (default is the SystemOut.log file in the
<WebSphere_home>\profiles\TIPProfile\logs\<server>\ directory)

I'm at a lost for sure.  Review of log files doesn't really show me much as I don't see any gleaming errors saying you can't connect or can't authenicate for some reason or the other.  I've never configured a Cognos environment before so not sure which piece or part or whatever with the integration configuration is messed up.  I am curious has to how does cognos know which database its suppose to be using for the authentication or whatever.  If cognos can't see the maximo database or isn't configured to point toward it then maybe that's the issue.  So where in the Cognos configuration menu/screen and/or properties file do I tell it where to find my maximo database.  Per the instructions it just states to copy over the mxcognosdatabase.properties file but how do I know that its being considered/included in the cognos environment set up when it starts up.

Is there anyone else besides myself and Orb Maximo that has completed/attempted this type of setup????

I'm up for any other suggestions or pointers.

Are there any pure Cognos administrators out there that might be able to shead some light on this

but using DB2 instead of Oracle.
If it is an authentication issue are you receiving any Cognos error messages
(e.g. CAM-AAA-0034)?
Is there anything in the Cognos log file? Default location is
/opt/IBM/tivoli/tipv2Components/TCRComponent/cognos/logs/cogserver.log on
UNIX, so presumably C:\Program Files\IBM\etc. on Windows)
Also check the TCR log (default is the SystemOut.log file in the
<WebSphere_home>\profiles\TIPProfile\logs\<server>\ directory)

From: Orb Maximo (2012-10-25 17:31)

What authentication method are you using in Maximo? What did you specify in
Step 2 of the TCR/Cognos configuration (page 10 and 11)?

If you are using Maximo security the in Step 3 the
mxcognosdatasources.properties file that you have copied tells Cognos where
to obtain authentication information (in conjunction with the CSP and jar
files you configure in Step 4) - this file should have been copied to the
C:\Program
Files\IBM\Tivoli\tipv2Components\TCRComponent\cognos\configuration directory
on the TCR server, which is where Cognos will pick it up from.

Some other things to consider

1. Does the Cognos integration from TCR work? Have you tried accessing
Cognos Administration from the Tivoli Integration Portal (TIP) installed
with TCR? If that doesn't work then the Maximo integration and configuration
will probably not work either
* You can verify by login to the TIP at URL https://
<https://%3cTIP_server%3e:16311/ibm/console/logon.jsp>
<TIP_server>:16311/ibm/console/logon.jsp with user tipadmin and whatever
password you chose at installation
* Choose Reporting-> Common Reporting from portfolio menu on left
* Select the MAXIMO namespace (if using maximo security) and click
okay
* Select Public Folders tab and then Common Reporting-> Reporting
Overview
* This will verify that TCR to Cognos is functional
2. Cognos is a 32-bit application (even though it is installed on a
Windows 2008 R2 64-bit OS) and therefore requires the 32-bit database client
for connectivity - this includes the integration from TCR to Cognos.
* You need to use 32-bit JDBC/ODBC connections - see
http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v3r1/topic/com.ibm.tivoli.tcr.doc
_211/trtcr_odbcdatasource.html
* Make sure that you are using the 32-bit jar files for the
Oracle/DB2/MSSQL drivers
3. If you are using Internet Explorer (V7, V8 or V9) you need to add
the <TIP_server> to the Trusted Sites

I checked the URL generated from Maximo -> Launch Cognos Administration and
it looks good to me - this is the generated URL that I see on my working
system
http://
<http://%3cTIP_server%3e:16310/tarf/servlet/dispatch?b_action=cogadmin&__use
rid=MAXADMIN&__mxtoken=98-TrHiNazdV1COOCHwHnoaZbe&CAMNamespace=maximo&mxserv
erurl=http%3A%2F%2F%3cTIP_server%3e>

&__mxtoken=98-TrHiNazdV1COOCHwHnoaZbe&CAMNamespace=maximo&mxserverurl=http%3
A%2F%2F<TIP_server>

It seem that you may not be too far off getting this working J

I'm at a lost for sure. Review of log files doesn't really show me much as
I don't see any gleaming errors saying you can't connect or can't
authenicate for some reason or the other. I've never configured a Cognos
environment before so not sure which piece or part or whatever with the
integration configuration is messed up. I am curious has to how does cognos
know which database its suppose to be using for the authentication or
whatever. If cognos can't see the maximo database or isn't configured to
point toward it then maybe that's the issue. So where in the Cognos
configuration menu/screen and/or properties file do I tell it where to find
my maximo database. Per the instructions it just states to copy over the
mxcognosdatabase.properties file but how do I know that its being
considered/included in the cognos environment set up when it starts up.

Is there anyone else besides myself and Orb Maximo that has
completed/attempted this type of setup????

I'm up for any other suggestions or pointers.

Are there any pure Cognos administrators out there that might be able to
shead some light on this

When I log into the integration portal and try to access Common Reporting it tries to launch but gets hung up with a blank screen with a small circle icon that is commonly shown when something is loading but it nevers actually completes the loading of the page.

I've printed off some of the below suggestions and will try to trouble shoot it some more.  Could it also be I don't have enough memory to run everything on the server/workstation.  Current Virtual server configuration has only 4GB memory, does it require more memory than that to execute and run everything?

<https://%3cTIP_server%3e:16311/ibm/console/logon.jsp>

*    You need to use 32-bit JDBC/ODBC connections - see
http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v3r1/topic/com.ibm.tivoli.tcr.doc
_211/trtcr_odbcdatasource.html
*    Make sure that you are using the 32-bit jar files for the
Oracle/DB2/MSSQL drivers
3.    If you are using Internet Explorer (V7, V8 or V9) you need to add
the <TIP_server> to the Trusted Sites
I checked the URL generated from Maximo -> Launch Cognos Administration and
it looks good to me - this is the generated URL that I see on my working

point toward it then maybe that's the issue.  So where in the Cognos

I have just completed configuring TCR 2.1.1 with Maximo &.5 in pretty much
the same environment setup (TCR, Maximo and database on different servers),
but using DB2 instead of Oracle.
If it is an authentication issue are you receiving any Cognos error messages
(e.g. CAM-AAA-0034)?
Is there anything in the Cognos log file? Default location is
/opt/IBM/tivoli/tipv2Components/TCRComponent/cognos/logs/cogserver.log on
UNIX, so presumably C:\Program Files\IBM\etc. on Windows)
Also check the TCR log (default is the SystemOut.log file in the
<WebSphere_home>\profiles\TIPProfile\logs\<server>\ directory)

Where is your TCR server installed relative to Maximo? Are they on the same

to install the Oracle client local to the TCR server and configure TNSNAMES

Still having issues with making this integration work. Either I've missed
something in the configuration per the document downloaded or there is
really more to the integration than it shows. Running both on windows 2008
R2 servers against an Oracle database. I follow the steps outlined in the
document and get stuck at paragraph 7 when I attempt to launch the cognos
administration console via the link in Maximo 7.5. For some reason its not
resolving this connection and returns Internet Explorer cannot display the
webpage. I don't believe it authenicating correctly or I'm having some type
of issue with my ports on the servers being used.
Anyone else got any ideas.

If you are saying that the 4GB is for the TCR server, that should be okay as
the documentation states 2GB for TCR installation.

I have a virtual test system on my laptop with 4GB that runs everything
(maximo, database, TCR/Cognos) in the same VM - it is not particularly fast,
but it runs without problem.

When I log into the integration portal and try to access Common Reporting it
tries to launch but gets hung up with a blank screen with a small circle
icon that is commonly shown when something is loading but it nevers actually
completes the loading of the page.

I've printed off some of the below suggestions and will try to trouble shoot
it some more. Could it also be I don't have enough memory to run everything
on the server/workstation. Current Virtual server configuration has only
4GB memory, does it require more memory than that to execute and run
everything?

<https://%3cTIP_server%3e:16311/ibm/console/logon.jsp>
<TIP_server>:16311/ibm/console/logon.jsp with user tipadmin and whatever
password you chose at installation
* Choose Reporting-> Common Reporting from portfolio menu on left
* Select the MAXIMO namespace (if using maximo security) and click
okay
* Select Public Folders tab and then Common Reporting-> Reporting
Overview
* This will verify that TCR to Cognos is functional
2. Cognos is a 32-bit application (even though it is installed on a
Windows 2008 R2 64-bit OS) and therefore requires the 32-bit database client
for connectivity - this includes the integration from TCR to Cognos.
* You need to use 32-bit JDBC/ODBC connections - see
http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v3r1/topic/com.ibm.tivoli.tcr.doc
_211/trtcr_odbcdatasource.html
* Make sure that you are using the 32-bit jar files for the
Oracle/DB2/MSSQL drivers
3. If you are using Internet Explorer (V7, V8 or V9) you need to add
the <TIP_server> to the Trusted Sites
I checked the URL generated from Maximo -> Launch Cognos Administration and
it looks good to me - this is the generated URL that I see on my working
system
http://
<http://%3cTIP_server%3e:16310/tarf/servlet/dispatch?b_action=cogadmin

Subject: Re: [MAXIMO List] Tivoli Common Reporting (TCR) 2.1 with Maximo 7.5
