ABC Type and Count Frequency

From: Bret Gilles (2012-11-29 11:37)

Does anyone utilize the "ABC Type" and "Count Frequency" functions within the Inventory Module?  We are trying to understand the functionality of this, particularily the Count Frequency, and how to use it.  I understand the count frequency is days between audit or last physical count but can it be used to generate a report for a cycle count of inventory?

Any help is greatly appreciated!  Thank you.

Each time you enter a Physical count the last count date is established. if you use this in conjunction with assigning ABC values to the inventory records, then you can create a report or even a filter on the inventory list to select records identified as A not counted in the last X number of days (usually 30 to 60) and B items not counted in the last XX days (usually 120 to 180 days).
If created as a report it can be scheduled to be run once a week, to allow a reasonable number of items to be counted during a week.

Not sure what version you have, but basically, assuming you have 7.x, the
steps are:
a) Check out the ABC break points in the Organizations application
(Select Action / Inventory options). This will allow you to set the
frequency at which each category should be counted. If I remember
correctly, the defaults are 30, 60 and 90 days for A, B, and C categories
respectively.
b) Once you've determine the count frequencies in step a), go into the
Inventory application and run the ABC Analysis report. This report will
tell you (based on usage and cost) what your A, B, and C items are. On the
last page of the report is a link that will actually tell the report to
update the ABC Category and Count Frequency for each item, so you don't have
to set all of those ABC fields yourself. Note: if you don't have much
usage data, all your items will end up as "A"s, but it's a start. Each
time you run it, you will have more usage data, and it will get more
accurate over time.
c) Once you've done that, the Inventory Cycle Count report (I think)
will be up and running for you to use.

Hope this helps.
