Has anyone taken long descriptions from one application and imported into maximo and was able to retain the carriage returns?
I am able to retain the spacing but lose the carriage returns. This is moving data from Infor EAM to Maximo 7.5. Not sure if moving the data from EAM db to csv and then loading in Maximo is causing the issue or not.
Should i try to import from table to table? I am running sql on both applications.
Doesn't 7.5 now use HTML encoding for this? You may want to try exporting one and studying the content, I suspect you'll find <BR> or similar for the line breaks.

you are correct.. When you import you have to run the updaterichtext.bat, but my carriage returns are not being carried over..
As you can see from the below the spaces updated find with the tagging..
A-4 Air Compressor Frequency: Semiannual Special Instructions: 1. Review manufacturer's instructions and equipment history record. 2. Coordinate motor PM on an annual basis. See Guide M-3. 3. Tank should be inspected and tested by qualified inspector.
So when the long description is printed in a BIRT report i just get one paragraph instead of a format like the below, and yes we are using a Dynamic Text field in the BIRT report..
A-4 Air Compressor Frequency:
Semiannual
Special Instructions:
1.
Review manufacturer's instructions and equipment history record.
2.
Coordinate motor PM on an annual basis. See Guide M-3.
3. Tank should
be inspected and tested by qualified inspector.

I have this issue on emails that are consumed by the email listener and displayed in service requests. There is an IBM Blog post about a scripting solution to fix this. I have not put it in to work yet, but the disappearing carriage returns make emails hard to read. In this case the <BR> is not there but an encoded carriage return is, emails sent with the same data contains the carriage returns.

I'll have to give that a try.. I figured best option might be insert from one table to another and then run the updateRichtext.bat.
