dates as parameters on BIRT reports

Hi All.
 
I am developing a BIRT reports and one of the fields used as parameter for data entry is for Dates, the issue I am having is BIRT is asking me that this field as type date should be mandatory for data entry, please could you help me with this?.  could I set up the date field parameter as not mandatory?.

In the Edit Parameter dialog, there is a section labeled Display as.
There you can make the parameter required or not required.
The check box id identified as "Is Required"
