I think the “best practice” needs to be accommodating. What the software vendor and training manuals do not understand is that there are different size organizations. Some are thin – and - some have large numbers of staff (to run the EAM system). Some have planners and some do no planning. Some are 99% reactive and some try to be proactive. Some believe their PM’s are optional. And, some generate more PMs each month then they have staff for. And finally, you’re lucky if proper culture exists whereby the working level cares about the accuracy of the EAM system, let alone creating a work order, tied to the right location/asset.
I’m familiar with all the leading practices.
But each situation has to be evaluated individually. Asset intensive industries have different needs then facilities (and university) maintenance.
And sometimes it’s worth going to war on, and sometimes not.
I would make a list of all the objectives for the corporation as related to the EAM system.
Perhaps some would be more important than others (e.g. more ROI).
Make these mini-projects. Spread these out over time.
As Maximo Administrator you will need backers (stakeholders) and probably budget.
All of the above is called a roadmap.
