Re: [MAXIMO List] Long description dialog

Hi Chris,
I found an article in the support portal:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21579206
It says basically that you need to disable it for each field.
perhaps this helps

TSRM) seem to say it cannot be done. This is very frustrating as the way in
which the data is stored can be an issue when taking the data out of Maximo. I
had a need for example to create text based emails in 7.5 and communication
templates are always rich text with markup - very frustrating.
So in short I think the answer is no... this would be a good candidate for an
enhancement request in my opinion, IBM should provide a translator to strip the
tags and supply the data through a non-persistent field as plain text for
systems that need it.

Yeah, I have that article. It is only written from the perspective of the SR app, so doesn't actually say how to do it for the LD dialog. I did try to apply the same principle by adding <...plugins="[]" extra_plugins="[]"/> attributes to the longdescription tag in the long description dialog in the library. This initially looked promising as it does suppress the rich text controls. However it does not actually suppress the actual rich text. It still picks up the rich text formatting when you copy and paste in from something with rich text, say an email or something like that.
We have a PMR in with IBM and I got a call back pretty quickly on it. I was told that it is possible but just hasn't been documented yet. Development was working on documenting the process and she said they'd send me a draft as soon as we have it.
Our big issue with this is that we use Cognos integration for our reports and Cognos does NOT handle the Maximo rich text. First of all, the rich text is NOT actually rich text, it is HTML markup. Cognos will only handle the HTML if the output is HTML, it can't render it in the pdf (by far the most commonly used) output. In the interim, we have created a function on the DB that will strip the html tags, and replace the <p> and <br> with newlines, so the report uses this function and that should get us through until a more permanent solution can be found.
