I have actually seen something similar in the Labor grid of Assignment Manager. It happens when an assignment inadvertently gets made to a person who is on vacation or otherwise not available for work on that day. It usually happens when the assignment was made prior to the person being marked unavailable on the calendar. Suddenly all of the labor grid disappears but the row at the top of the list shows that rows are there ie 1 -10 of 20 or something like that.
So my guess is that there is some kind of data issue with your work orders some character that is not being interpreted correctly or a bad tie between tables.

Not bad guesses. It turned out to be intermittent, whatever it was; about a half hour later everything worked normally.
True story: the prior sysadmin used to take credit for resolving this. Can't make this stuff up.
