RE: [MAXIMO List] Archive Maximo database

From: Lon Stone (2012-07-25 16:30)

I have not used anything other than optim from IBM and even that is touchy and the licensing is expensive.
My challenge would be why? Are you archiving to save legitimate space or just trying to improve performance. There are ways to do both other than archiving.=

Lon,

Performance for the most part.

Thought about using security restrictions to limit data from view but just
want to check what other users are doing with large databases. I don't
think our database is considered big, just being pro-active and planning
ahead.

Regards,

Dennis B

Adding userrestriction will not solve your issue !! It will add more load on the performance
I think you better take a look at tweaking your DB first

There may come a time when you've squeezed as much as juice as you can from database improvments, as well as, adding resources, not to mention code improvements.
I have not heard of any other tools besides OPTIM, but....
A. I've heard it can be done.
B. I haven't done it but estimated the work to build a custom solution just as expensive as OPTIM, if not more. Not to mention its lack of support from IBM.

We support a Maximo instance that supports 17 independent organizations.
These organization generate a large number of work orders and the records
that support them (PR, PO, transactions etc.) due to performance issues we
only maintain the current year plus 2 in the production environment. Other
data is archived and available for analysis or other reasons that require
historic information. We have spent considerable resources determining what
records need to be removed from the system as a part of the archive process.
Basically we start with the work order and remove all records that are
associated with the work orders that are archived. It is not a simple
process and we have found a variety of orphaned records and modified our
process to address them. over time but with due diligence you can develop an
effective archive process. The increase in system performance is well worth
the effort.
