We do use the Where clause. It is set to: SITEID = <site name> and STATUS = 'ACTIVE'. Replace <site name> with whatever site you are setting up.
We generate weekly with however many days out the site is asking for. This is mainly to allow for a planning window, so if it spills over a couple of days it is no big deal.

I decided to go with the 43 days from the 20th of every month and like you
said if it sills over into another month then its really no big deal..
