I don't know if it is the "best way" but we use an associated Labor record and then have a Craft code that designates supervisors. Looking at the Person record screen, however, I see that there is a Job Code field and an Employee Type field. Either of these could be set up with a DVL list as a way to designate an employees position in the organization.
