Long description dialog

From: Hanna, Christopher CTR (2012-11-19 09:54)

Anybody know how to suppress rich text in the long description dialog in the library.xml?

The articles I have read such as this one
http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v32r1/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.srm.doc_721%2Fen%2Ft_enable_rte.html(for
TSRM) seem to say it cannot be done. This is very frustrating as the
way in which the data is stored can be an issue when taking the data out of
Maximo. I had a need for example to create text based emails in 7.5 and
communication templates are always rich text with markup - very frustrating.
So in short I think the answer is no... this would be a good candidate for
an enhancement request in my opinion, IBM should provide a translator to
strip the tags and supply the data through a non-persistent field as plain
text for systems that need it.

I believe you can change the control from Rich Text Editor control to just a Multi-Line Text Box Control it would take it back to the traditional long description box.

Unfortunately, the control in the long description dialog in the library was longdescription, not richtexteditor. I did try changing that control to a multi line. That caused the dialog to cease functioning altogether.
As for still having the invalid characters in a plain old multi line text box, I'd have to try that IF IBM ever gets us an answer. My gut feeling though is that since this only started occurring with Mx75, the rich text editor is the culprit.

I have a client who has suffered from this as well. Copying and pasting
from e-mails was the culprit . it was fine on the PR/PO, but when they tried
to approve the invoice, the result as an error.

In each case, the IT guy ended up having to strip out the invalid characters
manually, and eventually they stopped copying and pasting - which is a
shame.

I came close to deciding to put a trigger on the long description table for
that, to intercept the data and strip out the invalid characters on the fly
- it might be one of the only reasons I could see these days that a trigger
would still be useful.
