Re: How to transmit Work Orders to vendors

From: Miranda Anderson (2015-05-29 20:48)

Thanks. We had previously used Communication Templates, but they did not allow us to send all the functionality of the Work Order report. For example, if there was a Job Plan on the order, I don't think there is a way to transmit all that. Do you know if a Comm Template can be used to transmit all the data that would normally appear on a Work Order?

Why not configure a cron task to email the Work Order Details report?

I don’t know why not. ☺
Is that what “Out of the box” does? ‘Cause if so, that’s what we want to do.

I can't speak to what abilities may exist in Maximo 7.x, but in 6.2 you can't. The Communication Templates can't handle one-to-many relationships. (I'm looking at different What's New guides for the 7.x versions, and I don't see that they can there either.)

"Why not" is that you said you don't want to use the report anymore, because you don't want to have to maintain the report.

An "out of the box" solution doesn't exist in this case. If it did, you wouldn't be asking this question!

Further digging leads me to believe that one-to-many relationships (such as you would need for your "one" work order having "many" steps in a job plan scenario) still can't be done in Maximo 7.6, but it can be done with Automation Scripting.

If you have a script-writing resource.

Don't worry, I'm in the same boat. Write and maintain a report, or write and maintain a script -- it just depends on what skill sets you have available.

Or I believe there are third-party add-on apps that can do it, if you want to buy one of those.

It's out of the box functionality.
You'll want to configure an instance of the REPORTSCHEDULE cron task. Point
it to the Work Order Details report, set up your frequency and e-mail
address(es), parameters, and where clause, and you're good to go.
