I scanned the entry at developerworks, let me repeat my understanding of
the issue so you can correct me. It appears that your organization
wants/needs to update job plans "off line" via some external facility, and
then post them into Maximo via MIF. The catch appears to be that Maximo has
not exposed this object via an interface so that it is manipulable via MIF.
Is that right? In other words you are asking them to create an interface
etc for job plan objects?
One of my clients uses Maximo for job management but interfaces the
purchasing and the accounting objects to external legacy systems. The
objects exchanged are the usual business transactions such as purchase
requisitions, purchase orders, receipts, invoices, labor and other
billbacks. What you are looking for is an interface to something that is
updated in the course of business activities but probably not all that
frequently for most organizations. And if Maximo is used to manage work,
one would expect that it would be used to manage job plans, not some
external facility. I can see why IBM may not have gotten around to creating
interfaces for job plans. Nevertheless for completeness sake it ought to be
there along with plenty of other objects that probably remain without
interfaces.
But as for voting for it, one has to consider what the priorities ought to
be. You might try convincing us.
