We have been approached recently by our procurement team on this very subject. After trying to enhance the performance of status changes, we customized the purchase contracts application so the changes run in the background through offline actions. Testing was very successful and we put the final programming into production this morning. We will know in the next several weeks whether or not the procurement team is happy with this change.
We use Maximo 7.1 if that makes any difference.

Hello Cathy, would you be able to provide some information on how this was implemented ? We are running into similar issues in work order application and would like to implement something like this.
