User fields in a MIF object structure

From: Hanna, Christopher CTR (2011-11-30 11:14)

Maximo 7118
All,
In 6.2.2, I was able to add a user field to an integration object used by the MEA. There were three tabs on the integration object main screen, one for persistent attributes, one for non-persistent attributes and one for user fields. Now in 7.1.1.8, I do not see user fields anywhere in object structures. The persistent and non-persistent fields are now on the select action menu under exclude/include fields, but there is nothing for user fields.
I'm scouring the documentation right now, but if anybody already knows how to do this in 7, please let me know.
Thanks!

In Maximo 7, user fields are mixed in with the other fields on the persistent and non-persistent tabs on the Exclude/Include Fields dialog.

I've filed the question once with IBM Support, and this was their reply:
"User fields were removed from integration objects in the Maximo 7
MEA because they only permitted a fixed data type of character
with a length of 50 and thus could not handle numbers or date values
very well.
The same functionality can be achieved in Maximo 7, with more
flexibility, by adding a non-persistent attribute to the Maximo
object (via Database Configuration) and then ensuring that the new
attribute is also added to the integration object. The new attribute
can be given a hard-coded default value in database configuration
and/or the value can be (re)set with an outbound processing rule."

We received a slightly different response from IBM....
The user fields were held over from earlier MEA versions when extra fields could not be added to tables. We still provided support for the extra fields in the Maximo 6 version. In Maximo 7, the Integration screens were redesigned. Since we provide the ability to create user fields in Database Configuration, it was decided that it would be simpler in Maximo 7 to use non-persistent attributes, and not have the additional code for Integration.
Thank you all for the responses!
