I'm looking for some information from anyone who is currently running Maximo 7.5 in production with asynchronous validation turned on.
We are currently in the process of upgrading from 7118 to 7503 and are in the internal testing phase. On a few occasions, our testers have received an error message in the application " There was a communication problem with the server which will result in the loss of some of your changes. You must reload the application and re-enter the information again." We put in a PMR and received a reference to this document.
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21595657
I'm concerned at this point because we've seen this error with only one or two testers on the application, internally with the users at the same facility as the server (meaning fast network). Our WAN is not the most stable or fast in the world and we do have some users in some very remote areas where bandwidth is a serious concern. I'm wondering if this is likely to be a big problem in the real world with bandwidth constraints.
I'd like to know if anyone out there on 7.5 has run into this issue and if so how frequently. Also if anyone has tweaked the timeout setting referenced I'd love to hear what your experience was with that.
Thanks!

Chris,
We ran into this issue as well with 7.5.01. IBM's suggestion was to turn off the async, until an IFIX was released.. some of our users that were at remote locations received the error constantly.. After we turned of the async the users stopped receiving the error.. We also tried tweaking the timeout settings and did not see a change in users receiving the error..
Our Severs were located in Phoenix and most users were located in DC area.

I know this is an older thread, but....
We are on 7.5.03 (recently updated from 7.5.02) and we have been seeing the error more frequently lately. Have others tried turning off Async-Validation system-wide? Were your results the same (did this system-wide change solve the errors)?
We are considering this option.

Yes the errors went away with Async turned off, but when upgrading to 7.5.0.4 and Async turned on we have not received the errors, so i'm thinking the issue was resolved with 7.5.0.4

We applied base 7.5.0.4 a couple of months ago and we did see an improvement in the communication errors, but they did not disappear completely. Base 7.5.0.4 has some other issues, some of them actually fairly serious. The biggest of them being that the EAR build process does not clean up after itself and the EAR file will grow exponentially to the point where deployment will fail. We are applying the initial IFIX (IFIX20130418-0906) this week and that corrects that problem. So if you go to 7.5.0.4, be sure to apply at least the first IFIX (I believe there are also two more to date). Also worth noting that the readme for this IFIX indicates that some more work has been done on the communication error which may further improve the situation. It will be a little while before we can gage whether we see any more improvement. It is worth noting that we have some very remote and bandwidth constrained sites using Maximo so we may see this problem worse than most would.
