Maximo Inventory Conversion issue?

From: Thomas (2011-07-21 14:09)

I am not sure if this is an issue with the way we set inventory up or an issue with Maximo. So any help or insight is appreciated. Our inventory module is set up with a central storeroom that does all the inventory ordering and transfers it to our other storerooms including rolling (trucks) storerooms. On occasion there is a need to transfer items back to the main storeroom. In our inventory we have an Item that the central storeroom orders in Gallons and issues in Gallons. This item is transferred to a satellite storeroom that receives in Gallons and issues in ounces. The conversion we have for Gallons to ounces is 1 gallon=128 ounces. This works fine transferring from the central store room to a satellite storeroom. The issue occurs when we transfer back from the satellite storeroom to the central storeroom. To do this Maximo uses the inverse of the conversion. Doing the math myself I get 1/128= 0.0078125. However when Maximo does it, the system rounds 0.0078125 to the hundredth (0.01). This rounding causes an issue when you transfer 128 ounces back to the main storeroom giving you .28 gallons more than what was actually received. Doing the math it looks like this 128 ounces x 0.01 =1.28 "Gallons"
We are currently running Maximo 7.1.1.5

How many decimal points does the Unit Cost field in the MATRECTRANS object
have? I suspect that might be the problem. If I remember correctly,
transfers are recorded there.

The Unitcost is an ammount 2 decimal places but what would the cost have to do with the quantity being off?
I think I am going to change the conversion field to allow more decimal places. It is currently set as a decimal with 2 decimal places. My concern is that is that if the inverse is calculated and rounded in the MBO it won't do any good.

I submitted a PMR to IBM on this issue. IBM suggested changing the matrectrans.conversion field to a length of 20 and a scale of 7.
This resolved the issue.
