Desktop Requisition Cancel/Close issue - v7.1.8 on Oracle

We are facing two bothersome issues which as per IBM are working as
designed.
1. Cannot Cancel DR containing NS and STK items if STK item(s) are
issued and returned and the PO cancelled:
STK item(s) are issued and returned. Then PO and PR are cancelled.
Would ideally like to cancel this DR to put it in history. But If you
attempt to change the status of the DR to CAN (this option is available
in the Change Status dropdown menu), you will get the message: Change
Status is not valid.
Note that If STK item(s) are not yet issued then an escalation runs
successfully to CAN the DR: Remove item reservation, Cancel PO, Cancel
the PR. This will put the DR in WAPPR status. Escalation will then CAN
the DR.
2. Cannot Close a DR containing NS and STK items:
When the STK items are issued and the PO, PR is cancelled we would like
to CLOSE the DR but there is no such option.
Wondering how others are handling these issues. Considering a trigger
over a MBO customization. Any pitfalls to watch for other than back-end
manipulation? Looking forward to your insights for a resolution or
workaround. Much appreciated.
