Tip of the Day #200

From: John (2011-09-23 00:16)

Over the next 10 years you will probably upgrade your system 4-5 times.
Each upgrade has a large cost.
Usually consultants are involved. You have to budget for this.
If you add up that cost and ask ... are you really getting a proper return on investment? If not, why not?
Is corporate starting to "look around" for other EAM/ERP systems?
Is your Maximo system just about creating work orders, setting up escalations, and creating start centers?
What if you skipped a version upgrade and scheduled a business process review looking at data, business rules, procedures, roles/responsibilities, and performance indicators?
Do you think there might be some discoveries which can add value?

Maximo is one of the most complicate system to be upgraded. Event without any customisation whatsoever....still bloody complicate.
It should be as simple as it is:
- Unzip the upgrade program to Maximo folder (all new updated Java class)- Run SQL script to update the database- Rebuild the EAR files and redeploy- Install any update for BEA or Websphere- Finish
Right?
