We are in the process of migrating from 4.1.1 to 7.1.1.7. In Maximo 4.1.1 you had the option to "insert new asset" or "insert new asset with autonumber." Does anyone know if 7.1.1.7 allows the same flexibility or is it an all or none situation?

Doug - In the Database Configuration app, when you select the ASSET Object and go to the AssetNum attribute, you can set the 'Autonumber' to ASSETNUM and 'Default Value' to &AUTOKEY&. This will default a new asset to generate a new autonumber, but the User is allowed to over-write it with a custom value.

Hi,
You can set up the asset number to autonumber by each site. So if you have one site that wants to autonumber and another that does not then they can both be set up the way that they want. You can also add a prefix to any autonumber.
If it autonumbers you can change the asset number before you save the new record.
