yet another problem with printing reports

From: Travis Herron (2011-10-21 15:47)

Maximo 6.2.6, weblogic, sql server
Just passing along an experience for general knowledge to the group. . .
My IT department pushed down a bunch of updates to client computers yesterday that would install when people shut down their computers. So at the end of the day I shut down my computer with the "Install Updates and Shut Down" option.
Today I get a call from another user who says Maximo wouldn't print his work orders, "it was just all blank in the box that pops up." So I tried it. Sure enough, the box that normally pops up and says "Printing in progress, do not close window" was just blank and all white inside. The browser toolbars were kind of flickering, and Windows Task Manager reported that the printing dialog was Not Responding.
I looked at what IT had installed (Add/Remove Programs). There was a lot. I took a guess at which one might have been the offender. There was one update to IE, so I uninstalled that. It was:
Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 8 (KB2586448)
In the uninstall process it warned me that uninstalling that could affect these:
Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2564958)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB2567053)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB2592799)
Update for Windows XP (KB2616676-v2)
I uninstalled it anyway and rebooted. Printing works again.
So just a heads up to all who may encounter this same problem. I'm going to take it to IBM support and see if they've got a hotfix or something.

Not really. I did speak to one person there who kind of gave me the feeling that it's pretty much an unsupported print driver now so there might not be a fix for it, ever. The fix is to upgrade, or not print.
