We have had a bunch of users report that Direct Print has stopped working. It opens the little window like usual, however, the little window is blank, the document never prints, and in order to close the window it prompts you to end task then all IE windows close.
Here's what I found out today after a lot of time working on this issue. I expect some of you may encounter it so I wanted to let you know ahead of time.
A Microsoft patch for IE 8 that IT just rolled out (MS11-081) has broken it. The reason we know this is because I uninstalled the patch from a userâs machine that was having the problem and sure enough, the functionality came back.
However, a newer version of java seems to fix the issue WITH the patch installed. Most users here are currently on 1.6.0_11. When I tested installing java se 1.6.0_29 on another userâs machine that was having the issue, the Direct Print started working again.
We are on Maximo 7.1.1.6, IE8, Windows XP sp3.

Thank you for the info, hope it works for Maximo 6.
It is funny that Java 1.6 update 29 is giving issues for Maximo 5 users, but
solving the direct print issue for Maximo 7 users.

Also on 7.1.1.6. USing IE 7, 8 and 9.
I'll give this a try. Our direct print quit working when we installed the hot fix for the PO lines not showing more than 200 item numbers for the select list.

Thanks for this heads up! I had a user on 5.2 maximo go haywire when he accepted an update for Jave 1.6-29. I had to have it uninstalled and put back to a lower version.

Same issue, same fix. After a series of patches rolled out from our IT Dept, I needed to have them updated several machines JVM. In every case the updated JVM fixed the printing issue.

That's great. Unfortunately our IT is making us wait to approve v29 before
they will let us install it on any more user's machines.
