Only a small percent of all organizations ever attain the highest level of EAM maturity. To achieve operational excellence, a strategy based on software, process and organization needs to be created and embellished by all. Implementations and upgrades typically tend to be software exercises. An excellent technical implementation can be a disaster in the making meaning the end users never really planned to use the system. Intended benefits can be obscured or diluted when resistance to change becomes more pervasive. The tip for project managers is to focus on culture as well as software, and, by refining the culture you can move from a compliance oriented team to an acceptance oriented team. Over time, this type of team will better position the organization for break-through results.
