Our technicians currently use a calendar book to write down vacation days. Our organization is very flexible but it makes planning difficult by having to periodically review the vacation book.
I would like to make this an electronic process that I can incorporate into Maximo.
1. This helps us to know who is available for emergency work
2. We will be able to determine if a crew is at 100% manpower when assignments are made.
Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks,
~R
You can make Shift Calendars in Maximo eg many technicians belong to Calnum = 5DAY.
Then you manage by exception to record planned absences (using an 'update mechanism' other than Calendar app
... unless you want a Calendar for each technician).
What version are you on?
What reporting tool?
And do you ever plan to use Assignment Manager?

We just upgraded from 6.2.6 to 7.1.
Yes, we are starting to utilize assignment manager.
I need to make it easy for the technicians to enter their time.
Right now it is convenient to grab a paper logbook/calendar and jot down their vacation days.
What update mechanism are you referring to? Do you mean a simple webpage they can submit time and dump data to maximo?
thanks for your help.

There is an obvious advantage to storing calendar type information inside Maximo as this provides the resource pool data (eg for weekly scheduling).
Just to be sure we are clear ... Have you made Calendars yet?
Have you seen Absences screen in Persons app?
What is the end game? Is it just to create Calendars and track planned absences, or is there more?

I have not made calendars yet nor have seen absences screen. I will explore these options.
The end game is to track absences so I know labor availability and provide an interface for technicians to enter their own vacation/absences.
Will advise.
