There's backlog - and then there's backlog.
Originally I thought this word only had one meaning. But of late there seems to be issues relating to the amount of data entry backlog whereby the work order has activity, and updates were provided, but these paper updates never made it into the database. Clients can get into this predicament several ways: (1) inadequate staffing levels for Maximo update, (2) never caught up from a massive update situation, (3) new data entry requirements were added to update process, (4) inadequate training, (5) lack of clear input roles, or (6) system speed/performance issues. Typical ways to get out of this situation are to hire temporary input staff or get tech level to start keying in their own data. That last part is easier said than done. To be fair, I think the best approach towards ideal working level involvement, is when, you give them mobile devices. That way they can enter timely updates while closing up the job, clicking on value lists, and, create new work requests as they are needed. In summary, if you have a growing data entry backlog, this can affect the overall accuracy of your database, timely reporting plus cause a loss of confidence in the entire product.
