Challenging Encounters during Implementation
When implementing Maximo, the Project Manager has his hands full. And sometimes he runs out of time (and budget). When this happens there are cuts to training hours or promised reports. Plus these cuts usually result in less change management.
The later issue means less time training, explaining concepts, demonstrating functionality, motivating, debating issues, answering what-if questions, and managing risk. Some work groups require special attention. It is nearly impossible to train users on every feature. At some point they have to take initiative (even after go-live) to continue learning on their own - or not.
Three types of groups encountered:
1) Quick study; ready for change; strong project advocates; able to visualize future benefits
2) Take some time to understand new system, but, willing to learn and support process change
3) Struggling to see benefits; hanging onto legacy design; mistrust of management intent behind project; fear of change
Hopefully groups 1 & 2 make up your majority. The Project Manager is usually quite happy to work with group 2 as the willingness to learn is half the battle.
