Tip of the Day #218

From: John (2012-01-27 17:38)

Subject: The Advocate
You have a Core Team group which meets regularly and provides direction to the Maximo system operation/utilization. But for some reason the vision is still missing, enforcement of rules/procedures is nonexistent, the groups are operating differently (no standard business rules) and overall management backing is lacking. The system seems to be mainly used for creating work orders – and that's it. Use is optional.
For some groups, they need to look further in terms of upper management involvement/support. They need to find a person who is high up in the organization (if not the C-level) who has the respect and authority to make things happen. The suggested approach would be for the Core Team leader to "find this person", approach this candidate, and then schedule a meeting. Be prepared to discuss problem & need, benefits of this role to company, overall importance of an EAM system, and why upper management support is needed. Also explain their expected time commitment and involvement in the process. If successful in lining up this role, you should be able to quickly move forward along your roadmap for continuous improvement.
Sometimes you need to take the initiative.
