Greetings All,
I am starting down the path of getting our NFPA (Fire Protection) records moved into Maximo. I am getting the job plans from those doing the work and will translate them into maximo job plans. They will then get the asset info into Maximo and then, with the job plans and Master PMs, we will then generate the PMs based on the rotating item of the asset. I am planing of using meters to collect all of the data that is reported out. And then building a BIRT report to get the necessary data to our local fire marshall.
I humbly and kindly ask if anyone has experience on this to please share your method, experience, or thoughts on this plan. Also "I wish I would have..." are greatly appreciated!
And of course I will share my expirence as we get things running, and even the report template for any interested.
Thanks,
Andy
We did this at a company I worked for many years ago. We built custom fields for each regulation. This is no longer necessary or recommended.
My recommendation is to use the Maximo Safety, Health and Environmental solution to assist in this effort. There is a Regulatory Compliance module in Maximo v7.
In a nutshell, you generate a record for the NFPA regulation, such as NEC 70 for the electrical codes. Then all Assets, Job Plans, and PMs that are associated with the NFPA national electric code will inherit the relationship to the regulation. You can then display these WO for the electrical supervisor on the Start Center, and you have regulation to query for what is likely an Existing BIRT report (i.e. WO List, JP list, PM list). This prevents the needs for a custom report.

Andy, we have been doing fire extinguishers on a handheld scanner for years thru maximo (v4.1.1) and have been generating NFPA pm's for devices and firedrills for a longtime also. We made every device an asset (barcoded) and now create routes for the devices that need testing. The mechanic gets his routed pm workorder, scans each asset as its tested. Our report then shows the device, who tested it and date tested. We are a hospital so we have to deal with the Joint Commission for Hospital Accreditation which surveys against NFPA-101 (the Life safety code) which is basically written from all the other NFPA codes (25, 10, 72 etc). It has worked well for us and the reports (while they don't exactly look like NFPA suggested reports) suffice. Plus, if a device fails its test, we can generate a corrective maintenance workorder for that asset and create a 'failed'-'fixed' audit trail. You can reach me at dallas.shults@us.army.mil and i can send you pdf's of what we do.
