Maximo for Service Provider 7.5.1

From: shannon (2012-03-19 15:09)

IBM is requiring that we purchase SP since assets in our application do not belong to us.. I thinks that sort of ODD!! So does anyone have any good documentation on the use of Service Provider? Since we have to purachse I figure we should use it to the fullest!

Shannon,
There are some comprehensive user guides on IBM's Maximo web site. The direct link to Service Provider is http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v3r1/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.spr.doc_7.1.2%2Fwelcome.htm

I'm not sure the reason behind buying SP is that the assets in your systems
don't belong to you.... Do you have any requirement to BILL other companies
(may be the owner of the Assets that you maintain) for the maintenance
services that you provide? if the answer is yes and you have a
'significants' business rules for markups ... then you probably need
SP...... If you have a simple business process for customer billing, then
you can propably achieve that using standard EAM version + couple of
repoerts....

We don't bill from Maximo at all, but according to IBM if your business is
to maintain an asset that belongs to a customer you must purchase Service
Provider!

That sounds odd to me also. One of my clients who also manages non-owned
assets recently took a look at SP and opted not to go with it as they
handle billing in a different way and IBM never pressured them to go with
SP.
I'd ask your IBM contact whether Maximo is still licensed by Named User or
not. Seems that any additional requirement to license an industry solution
version should be spelled out in writing somewhere.
