Tip of the Day #228

From: John (2012-04-07 01:50)

Like flying a plane at night you have to rely on instruments. This requires training and trust in the instruments. Similarly, there needs to be a trust in the EAM architecture and product design when it comes to advanced processes. Do you trust the software to properly generate PM work orders? Re-order stock material (creating PR/POs)? and perform automated schedule generation when you hit the resource-leveling button?
1) There are sites that never process PMs for fear of creating too many work orders.
2) Some are concerned about too many parts being reordered when considering stock material reservations. Work orders may have inaccurate schedule dates.
3) And automatic resource-leveling is sometimes scary.
For the above situations, sometimes the foundation data is bad,
such as
1) improper setup of PM frequencies or estimates. PM prioritization can help PM Manager to slowly roll-out.
2) Bad ROP points; bad EOQs; no safety levels. Need to review inventory and fix.
3) Resource availability not defined; too many emergencies; bad work order statuses. Need to correct the backlog.
These automated routines are intended to save time and add process efficiency but they do require an accurate database.
