Running Maximo on thin client boxes

From: Jason Verly (2012-04-19 19:43)

I have one site that has a group of users running their desktops on thin client boxes via an RDP connection to a Terminal Services server. I got a call from the site stating anyone with a thin client box can't log into Maximo. They all got the 'session timed out' dialog box as soon as any of them tried to enter their username and password. I followed up with the local IT admin to look at diagnosing the issue and after about 15 minutes it basically broke down to a he said/he said stand off.
I don't know enough about the setup they are using to help pinpoint the issue, but I'm curious if anyone else is using this type of setup and has some tips or hints on where/how this error is coming from.

Dear Jason,

Afaik, RDP consumes lot of bandwith (It transfers data & screen). We have
implemented thinclient using Citrix (which transfer screen only) and runs
fastly, but it is expensive.

Best Regards,

Start simple (if you haven't already) -- get on that terminal server and clear out the browser cache.
If that doesn't do it, have the users clear out the browser cache on each thin client.
Also check Internet Options --> General tab --> Browser History section --> Settings button. Set it to "Always" check for newer versions of the page. (That's Internet Explorer anyways)
If that doesn't do it, get in your database backend and start deleting entries from MAXSESSION that have that terminal server as the clienthost.
--How long has this problem been going on? I mean, have they been connecting to Maximo successfully for a long time and now all of a sudden there's problems; or is this a new rollout of thin clients and a bump in the rollout is that they can't connect to Maximo or what?
--When they connect to the terminal server, is each user supplying his own credentials or is some generic user or guest being passed in?
Hope that helps!
