External Report Integration in Maximo 7.x

From: Thomas (2012-05-03 17:08)

Has anyone used External Report Integration to integrate with Business Objects(Crystal)?
If so, would you mind sharing your experience?
Thanks,
Tom

Tom,
We just complete our install which uses ERI to integrate with BO Crystal Server 2011. I would say that while this solution is working well now, the path to get there is not a particularly enjoyable one. ERI does allow you to connect to an external report solution, but the configuration file used to connect to BO is not provided. You will have to script custom js code in order to make the connection.

Tom,
If possible, I'd highly recommend embracing the out of the box QBR/BIRT tools. I looked at this as well and the steps to make it work weren't pretty and weren't fully supported by IBM - e.g the custom script Shane mentioned. The breaking point for me was the possible need to create a universe in Crystal for Maximo for ad hoc report developement.
I officially stopped Crystal development as of 4/30 and it's been the best move I've made related to Maximo in a long time.

Does anyone have a sample file for a MX 7.5 - BO/CR interface?
Does it follow the method used in version 7.1 or is additional coding
needed?
I found a reference to BO/CR integration in an IBM document stating (my
emphasis)
"Reporting options change in v7.5. Existing users of Actuate Reporting
and Business Objects Crystal Reports need to evaluate their reporting
options in the 7.5 release. v7.5 does not include the reporting
integration code specific to Actuate and Crystal Reports and existing
5/6/7.1 report delivery and configuration options must be reviewed. For
additional information, please click here."
However, clicking the suggested link yields the IBM Maximo Asset
Management Version 7.5 Report Planning Guide. This document directs one
to the external reporting system's documentation.

Hello,
I'm also attempting to integrate MX 7.5 with BO/CR. I just started and have not gotten far. I too was hoping to find a sample file or better documentation/forums regarding the interface.
I've been using the 7.5 ERI and have also started looking at BO/CR API/SDK guides. Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated to point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Judy

For those interested in learning more details/options related to Crystal Reports/BO and Maximo v7.x, Pam Denny from IBM has a working group on IBM's Developer Works site dedicated to this topic.

We recently integrated Maximo 7.5.0.4 with Crystal Reports. As far as I know, it is Business Objects Enterprise 12.0 running TomCat 55. I think we installed SP5 recently for Crystal.
I wrote up a Word on all the different steps required to integrated with Crystal Reports.
I am not sure if I should just include all the pre-build files including the files you need from Crystal Reports Server. The downside is that your server version of Crystal may differ from ours which may cause unknown errors.
