Crossover Fields from Item to PRLine & POLine

From: ahtnamas74 (2012-05-10 19:19)

I need a set of fields that will work similar and in addition to the Inspection Required for Item, PR's and PO's. This field will ultimately print on the PO and will tell the vendor if a MTR (Material Test Report) is required for the material being ordered. From reading past postings and experience, I know it is better to use existing fields instead of creating new fields for crossovers. I believe that Item.IN19, PRLINE.RLIN1, and POLINE.PLIN1 should be my fields to make this magic happen, but it's not.
I have added these fields to the screens in Item Master, PR's and PO's, and entered text for a few items. But when I create a new PR or even a PO, the text entered at the Item does not follow. Any suggestions for getting this work?
I'm using Maximo 7.1.1.7

Well, that's interesting.

You are correct: it should be ITEM.IN19 that goes to PRLINE.RLIN1, and then
to POLINE.PLIN1.

I'm pretty sure that the PRLINE to POLINE crossover is still there, but it
sounds like they may have removed the ITEM to PRLINE one.

The good news is that it's easy to set up a custom crossover for that part
of the equation - it's the PRLINE to POLINE one that's hard. So I would
suggest just setting up a regular crossover for that part.

Hi Shannon,

Refered to that case, i suppose that you can not create a custom crossover
using a crossover domain. Copying prline to poline or creating po from pr
using "a-closed-loop" mechanism which not supported by
crossover-field-method. Afaik crossover-domain triggers action method,
CMIIMW.

I agree that custom crossovers are hard to do for PRLINE to POLINE, but he was asking about the ITEM to PRLINE stage.

It should be easy to create a crossover from IN19 (or a custom field on the ITEM table) to PRLINE.RLIN1. After that, the built-in crossovers should apply, and the data should automatically cross over to POLINE.PLIN1.

Here's the funny thing, the crossover from IN19 to PRLIN1 already exists. As well as the PRLINE to POLINE crossover for PRLIN1 to PLIN1. I tested it out and I can't get the crossovers to trigger correctly either.

Actually, in past there have been some built-in crossovers, i.e. they
crossed over automatically, left over from legacy versions. They're
undocumented in V5 onwards, but a bunch of them still work, such as the
RLIN1 to PLIN1 crossover. Apparently the IN19 to RLIN1 automatic crossover
has been removed though .

Jason: when you say you couldn't get the crossovers to trigger either - did
you mean from ITEM to PRLINE, or from PRLINE to POLINE? The last time I
checked, the PRLINE to POLINE crossovers still worked.

From: Kevin Egolf (2012-05-11 20:46)

We have use the crossover from IN20 to RLIN2 and IN22 to RLIN 4 for a long
time. We are currently upgrading to 7.5 and have them as crossover values in
a domain. I did not remove them from the domain to test if they still work
through the MBO but they do work in the domain. We use them to copy a value
for each item to the PRLINE and from there to the RFQLINE, POLINE,
appropriate Trans table and INVOICELINE.

I found that the upgrade kept the extra fields i.e. IN19 if you had data in
the field at the time of the upgrade. If had data in the fields that were
crossover fields in the previous version it added the value to the crossover
domain.

All of the crossovers are working in our v7.5 the same as the current v6.2.

I think you're confirming my theory, Kevin.

If I get you right: you're using a standard (V6-V7) custom crossover from
IN20 to RLIN2 and from IN22 to RLIN4.

Once the value is in RLIN4, it's copied from PRLINE to RFQLINE, POLINE,
Trans Table and INVOICELINE using the legacy crossover code - correct? You
don't have a V6-7 crossover set up for the PRLIINE to RFQLINE transfer?

Yep – those are the ones.

Only what I think the original poster (ahtnamas74 – what’s your real name?) and Jason are saying is: even though the documentation says that IN19 should cross over to RLIN1, it’s not doing that in V7. It rather sounds like IBM removed that part of the code. Well, that’s OK – a standard V7 custom crossover would work for that part.

The crossovers from RLIN1 to PLIN1, etc., are still working, which is more important.

RE: [MAXIMO List] Crossover Fields from Item to PRLine & POLine
I think you're confirming my theory, Kevin.
If I get you right: you're using a standard (V6-V7) custom crossover from
IN20 to RLIN2 and from IN22 to RLIN4.
Once the value is in RLIN4, it's copied from PRLINE to RFQLINE, POLINE,
Trans Table and INVOICELINE using the legacy crossover code - correct? You
don't have a V6-7 crossover set up for the PRLIINE to RFQLINE transfer?

We have use the crossover from IN20 to RLIN2 and IN22 to RLIN 4 for a long
time. We are currently upgrading to 7.5 and have them as crossover values
in
a domain. I did not remove them from the domain to test if they still work
through the MBO but they do work in the domain. We use them to copy a
value
for each item to the PRLINE and from there to the RFQLINE, POLINE,
appropriate Trans table and INVOICELINE.
I found that the upgrade kept the extra fields i.e. IN19 if you had data
in
the field at the time of the upgrade. If had data in the fields that were
crossover fields in the previous version it added the value to the
crossover
domain.
All of the crossovers are working in our v7.5 the same as the current
v6.2.

Shannon

You are correct. We do not have a crossover domain for PRLINE to RFQLINE or
from RFQLINE to POLINE. Our testing shows that the data from the extra
fields PRLINE1, PRLINE2. etc. copy to the RFQLINE, POLINE, trans tables and
INVOICELINE as they did in the previous versions.

We do have a crossover from PRLINE directly to POLINE. I do not know when it
was added or if it happened during a previous upgrade. I did some testing
and the crossover function from PRLINE to POLINE does not work without the
crossover. ( I removed some fields from the crossover domain).

So it looks like if you use the full functionality and go from PR to RFQ to
PO the legacy crossovers work. if you want to go directly from PR to PO you
have to create a crossover domain.

If anyone experiences different functionality please chime in.

Correct, I have both crossovers but they are not working as stated. I plan to start digging into why they don't work this week.

Thanks for all the input and I'm sorry to say that I'm glad it just isn't me that the crossovers aren't working for.
My intent is to be able to check a box on the item screen and then everytime that item is ordered a check box will be displayed on the PO telling the vendor that when they ship this item, additional documentation is required.

"Tell the vendor additional documentation is required" ...

If this is the goal then could you not have POprint report modified (which should be the key document given to vendor) and insert new instructional line whenever a specialty Item is ordered.
The report can read the flag on Item table once the Item is on POline record.

Or perhaps you want the Buyer to see this and verbally communicate ...

If your intent is to ultimately print the information on the PO\PR, then just edit your report.
If your intent is to also show those fields on the PO\PR application and it is not necessary to save this info with the PO\PR or edit it from the PO\PR then use a relationship so it displays in those apps.
I really don't see the value of saving that info with the PO\PR since it is already in column\s in the item master....(unless I am missing something)

Subject: [MAXIMO List] Crossover Fields from Item to PRLine & POLine
