Establishing Core System Designation what is the benefit to you?
Within many corporations there are multiple EAM system packages, some older/newer, with "overlapping" functions and data.
This is usually not a good thing because there are additional costs involved, such as:
1. Annual support fees,
2. Refresher training, and
3. Difficulty in extracting asset data from multiple systems to provide same measurement.
If the CIO would recognize that this overlap is inefficient and costly to operate, he should agree to the nomination of a single system for that purpose, e.g. EAM asset performance management, and make this part of a long range plan to consolidate data. In addition, the CIO should use this "categorization" to prevent new purchases of software with competing purpose. The Steering Team would review/approve future requests to change core systems. Lastly there should be a formal IT Policy in place which recognizes Core System concept, and designates which corporate products are "core".
