Thanks, folks; I have gotten great response privately on my rant about grown-ups and Tivoli. I am in in a pretty darn remote location (exotic, you might say), and don't have the opportunity to do benchmarking trips, which was an otherwise excellent suggestion. WIll do it next time I'm in the States. Meanwhile, *please do* contact me either here or through mail (whichever you are more comfortable with) if you perform or know of a resource for initial architecture consulting.
I believe that is the right step from here, as we have some experience with the system, and are against a wall for how to make it function without fighting the system. We have no dedicated staff to implement or maintain Tivoli/Maximo, so there is either a huge opportunity to outsource or train up on this.
