Inventory Reorder - Reserved Items - 7.5

From: shannonrotz (2012-07-31 22:54)

Hi guys: we've just noticed a problem with Inventory reorder in V7.5, namely:
- Item that has 0 balance, but has the "Reorder?" flag turned off (essentially an NS item)
- The item is added to the work order plan tab, so there is a reservation
In this case, the item needs to come up on reorder, but doesn't, because the reorder flag is turned off.
Does anyone have a process regarding this?
TIA
Shannon

If it is a non stock item as you said then you need to create a PR or PO with the item number on it. It will be a direct purchase item. Keeping the info in the inventory just helps you keep the details of the item to make it uncomplicated to order. Joe Russell

Have you tried checking the "Direct Issue?" check box on the Plans tab? That should trigger a reorder for the item.

Personally I don't like the "Direct Purchase" option as it allows users to direct purchase inventory i.e. stock in a storeroom this is very contradictory and in virtually every business I've implemented Maximo in the field is altered to read only if the item is an item master not in a store or it's materials.
Why not create an escalation if it occurs to a person group who can run a manual re-order

The other potential solution, if you want to avoid direct issue, is to
keep the reorder flag checked but set the reorder point to -1. That
will allow zero balance on your shelves but include the item on a
reorder if it's charged to the storeroom on an approved work plan.

Ian,
This is an interesting perspective, but my experience with direct
issue is actually the opposite. I've worked multiple implementations
where the customer wants to reserve its storerooms for on-hand
materials to support PM and relatively routine CM. All projects were
direct issue to facilitate approving, billing, and shipping project
purchases as a group. As such, there were plenty of items that could
be ordered as a reorder or direct issue depending on whether it was a
stock replenishment or part of a project Bill of Materials.
Off topic from Shannon's question, but hopefully germane to general
Maximo implementation good practice.

Ok I should read my e-mails before i fire and forget I specifically meant to say Materials could be direct purchased

So to clarify
I don’t think what I said is contradictory i.e. you are saying that in a specific case i.e. if the work order is “Project “ based then allow direct purchase.
My point is I’ve made the check box read only unless the right criteria are met otherwise a CM WO could raise an order for an item which exits in a store just because the operator ( for example ) didn’t want to wait for it to shipped from a store on another site or didn’t look to see if there were any PR’s or PO’s in the replenishment chain.
