Help with direct print

From: Travis Herron (2012-08-09 21:46)

Maximo 6.2.6 (yeah, still), WebLogic, SQL Server 2003
I don't personally print work orders often; it's quite rare actually. But I had to today and direct print isn't working for me. I'm not quite sure why. It used to work for me; I've not changed the report; and no one else has complained about it not working.
So that tells me it's probably my machine. Lots of stuff has changed since I last had to print work orders myself:
--we've changed proxy servers (but that should not affect Maximo since it's on our network; or if it did, it would affect everyone)
--my hard drive crashed so I've had to reinstall everything on the replacement drive
--and that means I reinstalled Acrobat Reader and Java.
--we also upgraded to Office 2010.
Worth noting is that if I go the long way (Action --> Run Reports -->Work Order Details), it works fine. But when I use Direct Print, it locks up IE.
Anyone know what would cause this?
Travis Herron

Have you been able to track down any differences between you and the maintenance group - browser, JVM, Acrobat version, etc?

One more item, is your ActiveX settings/restrictions the same as someone from the maintenance area?

Have you checked and to make sure you enable POP UP on IE? Sometime IE will display a POP UP about java being from an un-trusted or unknown vendor. You will have to select to allow the java applet to run. However you will not see this if POP-UPs are being blocked.
good luck

Yes, we've experienced a similar issue. Here's what happens to us:
1. you click the Direct Print icon
2. the small message box comes up
3. Maximo appears "stuck" and the only way to get freed is to close the browser and log in again.
What we found was that there was a security patch applied across many boxes that rendered the Direct Print function useless. Since it was noticed quickly and the roll out of the patch was not complete across all boxes, we were able to compare the security updates on a box that worked versus one that did not work.
Hope this helps you.

You describe the scenario correctly.
Whatever it was that caused it, I put on a newer version of Java and it seems to be working now.

Yes, good point, Travis. We did also find that the version of java we had contributed to the error. Unfortunately, we are limited to the version of java we can use here so my fix was not so easy. ;)
