Condition Based Monitoring

From: Bugz (2012-08-20 14:18)

We are in the process of upgrading to v 7.5 and I have a question about using condition based monitoring. We currently use IR and vibration routes and I would like to know if anyone is utilizing condition monitoring in Maximo. If so can you set it up for classes of assets or do you have to set it up for individual assets? We have never seen how this part of Maximo works so we are trying to understand the alarm levels and what they do for us. Any examples would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
John Cathey

You can define more than variable to be monitored per asset which are called monitoring points. For each point there are 4 alarm levels, two for low levels (warning and action) and the other two for up levels (warning and action). For each point you must associated or a pm or a jobplan in case of a reading exceeds any level. We are using Condition monitoring for managing the condition of piping systems and vessels.
This is a high level point of view, if you need more details let me know it and we can arrange a call meeting
regards

Okay, we finally completed the upgrade to v7.5 and I can now look deeper into condition monitoring. I have a specific case we want to solve. There are several filters that have been being replaced on time based intervals. We want to use differential pressure to trigger the filter change. I have set up a meter to capture the gauge reading. I have assigned the filter change job plan to the Upper Action Limit. I want the Upper Warning Limit to trigger a purchase order for the filters. We are autogenerating weekly our PM's 90 days out. 1) Can I get the condition monitoring module to order material? 2) Will the job plan generate a WO when the Upper Action Limit is met? If anyone is using condition monitoring and can help me set this up it is greatly appreciated.

It can't trigger a purchase, per se. I'll try to explain a bit, but keep in mind I'm not a Supply Chain expert, so I may have some of the specific details. When you generate and approve a Work Order with a job plan that has planned materials, Maximo will create a reservation for the materials from Inventory. If the reservations cause available balances within inventory to fall below your reorder threshold, the item would then appear in the next Reorder process. You can set up the Reorder process to run automatically on a set interval using the Cron Tasks (Similar to WO Generation from Condition Monitoring). So while the Condition Monitoring itself doesn't necessarily reorder, it can cause a reorder to occur. This is of course assuming you don't have the materials it's calling for on-hand already. In that case, based on the reservation type (Hard vs Soft), the reservation will hold the materials on hand for the work order that was approved.
Yes, the Work Order will generate using the Job Plan identified when the Upper Action Limit is met. In order for this to happen automatically you have to set up the Cron Task to run on a set interval (i.e. daily at 11p, twice a day, etc) to check for Condition Monitoring points that have been triggered. Keep in mind, unless you are using an external monitoring system to record pressure readings in Maximo (typically through MIF), then someone will have to enter the meter readings either directly on the asset, through a work order used to capture the readings, or through condition monitoring itself.
Hope that helps.
