Hi All,
Obviously there is no problem changing the asset up until the Work Order is Approved. At that point Assetnum becomes read-only.
There have been multiple requests from my user base to give a small number of users the option to change the initially selected asset.
Is this even possible?

The usual way is to unapproved the work order again. Then the asset will become read-write again.

Goto
Admin --> Organisations
Select your org
Select action --> work order options --> edit rules
In this dialog you can specify at what status and Asset can be changed.
However this applies to everyone so if you want a limited number of individuals then
In app designer make the field read only depending upon a sig option, the status and if the work order (conditional expression ) and a security group you may need to create a new security group if your not familiar with app designer let me know I can send you some screen shots
