Mass Move of Rotating Assets from Inventory direct to Salvage Location

From: Ron (2012-12-11 18:41)

Maximo 7.1.1.8,
Has anyone found a way to do a mass move of rotating assets out of an inventory Storeroom location to a Salvage Location? We have a rotating item that is being discontinued and has 386 assigned rotating assets in the primary storeroom that we want to move to a Salvage location. The only way we have found to move a rotating asset from the inventory storeroom to a Salvage storeroom is to first "issue" the asset to an Operating Location and then do a "move" to the Salvage location (you can not "issue" to a Salvage location). Doing this 386 times takes a long time.
We do this process quite often as we have approx 50,000 rotating assets assigned to only about 325 items.
Thanks,
Ron

You are correct that Maximo does not allow the transfer from a storeroom, it requires an issue. Sadly, 7.1 does not provide an "easy" way to issue multiple instances of a rotating asset that I am aware. But, 7.5 does!! Here's how I did this in 7.5.
I created a temporary issue location that can handle these with a type of OPERATING, I called it HOLD4SALVAGE. I Then created an Inventory Usage (the new app in 7.5 that replaces Issues and Transfers) Record using the rotating Item # and identified the quantity that I wanted to issue. Maximo 7 did not allow you to adjust the quantity of a rotating item and it forced you pick a specific asset per issue. There were 6 in the storeroom for my test so I used 6 as the quantity to issue them all. I used my new location as the To Location. After I hit the Complete button, Maximo pops open a dialog (Split Usage Quantity) asking me where which rotating assets I wanted to move. It does this because the quantity can be filled from multiple assets. So I click the Auto-split button, This adds a record for each rotating asset that I want to move. I then complete the Inventory Usage Record and the transfer is done.
I then went into Asset, searched for my rotating item number in my temp location. Did a move/modify from my list tab, which moves all records in the query. Then choose my REAL salvage location (SALVAGE), applied that to all records. Then change the status of all selected records to decommissioned.
In short, there isn't an easy way to issue multiple rotating assets in 7.1, but the good news it's in 7.5 already!

Thanks Sean, we will add that as another reason to get to 7.5.

I think the mass move can be implemented in Maximo 7.1 using MIF and
writing a proper user exit.
