Crossover Domains

From: karoleigh.miller (2013-01-14 20:39)

I came across a question online that entailed, "I have a question about job plan sequencing. If you have multiple different JP's on a PM, then the PM description will have to be generic. i.e. You can't call the PM annual overhaul if using multiple JP's. Therefore when the PM generates the WO, the WO will also only have a generic name. Is there a simple solution to make the WO descriptive of the tasks involved without adding JP Description to the list view of wotrack? Thank you for your time."
I believe that in order to accomplish this, a crossover domain is needed. So my question is how do I create a crossover from a Job plan description within a PM to a work order description?

If you're on 7.5, you could probably do it with an automation script, but if
not: the approach I'd take is to try to do a crossover attached to the
WORKORDER.JPNUM field. It's tricky though, because the PM record is
involved as well as the job plan record - so I can't guarantee that would
work.

I got around it by simply changing the Job Plan field on the front of the
work order to a multi-part textbox, and adding the Job Plan description
there. That way I didn't have to fool with the work order description, and
I think the users are happy just having the job plan description anywhere on
the work order.
