We are having the debate about job plan duration and planned labor hours on a job plan. Maximo doesn't have a very clear definition of what the duration is other than how many hours it will take to complete the work. Does/should this include time when work is not being
For example there is a work order to paint a small room with 2 coats of paint. Planning for 1 painter and 1 hour of labor for each coat we have 2 total labor hours. Is that the Duration? Or should we account for 2 hours of drying time for each coat? Making the duration 6 hours.
Cement truck pulls up.
Dumps load. Workers spread and level. Then leave.
Duration: 2 days to dry before building
Craft effort: 3 guys for 4 hours

Planned labor hours are used for resource planning. What craft, how many people and many hours will the work to accomplish the task.
Duration is how long will the job take from start to finish. This would include wait time, time for inspections and other non-working time (paint drying, concrete curing etc.) that is required by the job.
The duration is useful in scheduling subsequent tasks and is used to set the target finish and scheduled finish dates.
