Subject: Loading up the Job Planner
There are some organizations that designate the Job Planner as the main interface point with the CMMS. This could be good and bad.
The planner provides standardization of work planning process and is usually the most knowledgeable of the software but if he is the only one who is entering data then the overall database quality may suffer. There are only so many hours in the day, and to ask the planner to validate work initiation, perform planning/scheduling, status changes, failure codes and actual hours update is too much. If the management team decides that maintenance supervisors should not touch the system, then the only one left is the planner. Consequently, if the system is lacking in any respect it is the fault of the planner. Lastly, if the planner doesn't have time to perform future work planning and is consumed by day-to-day reactive work, then the benefit is lost.
Some say, reliability is everyone's job. The CMMS system needs input from many participants to make it a true knowledge base.
