There's no reason you can't be part of that movement. Attending user group meetings is a form of benchmarking. You can see how others are using the software. And sometimes you will discover a solution you hadn't thought of before based on a clever strategy.
And sometimes ..... you may discover a challenge the entire industry is struggling with. Quite often these challenges involve advanced processes. Who knows, maybe the software is weak in this area. Maybe the process is complex too. And maybe the system requires critical update in the form of actionable data (and not just text fields). Consequently, the more prerequisites you have the higher the probability for failure. But, the benefit is, better data and better decisions. And senior management now understands the value in the system and is no longer asking "where's the value?".
