Could not cvonnect as PSDIPUB - Error

From: fays0809 (2013-02-22 18:41)

Hello,
I am receiving the error 'Could not cvonnect as PSDIPUB' when trying to log into a specific Maximo database. I have tried many of the suggestions posted on this forum for resolveing this issue with no success. We are running Maximo 4.1.1 using Sql Server. We have 30+ different Maximo databases. Maximo is running on a server and all users have a remote desktop id into that server. No one has the Maximo client installed on their local machine. Once logged onto their Remote Desktop id on the server, everyone uses the same id and password to login into Maximo databases through Max411.exe.
The problem is that some users can login into certain Maximo databases fine, but they get the above error message when logging into other Maximo databases. I have a new remote server ID and can log into any database successfully. However, if I log into another users remote desktop id from my maching, I get the error on the same databases they get the errors. The error appears to be related to a users remote desktop server id/account.
I have an extensive programing background, but I am new to Maximo and this group. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin
Kevin Fay

Have you tried all of the suggestions here http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21262561 in particular check for Gupta.ini and that nobody has created new ODBC DSNs.
Chris.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your quick response.  I did everything on the IBM checklist you enclosed on your below email a few days ago and found nothing wrong.  I checked the ODBC DSNs and nothing is new or looks unusual.

Thanks,
Kevin

In an environment such as yours it is likely there could be a lot of database confusion, I seem to remember vaguely an issue where 4.x will always try a particular db type first. I would create a new ODBC DSN with a name you know to be unique and try that, if it works then start back tracking.

You said SQL Server, and ODBC – are you on a 64-bit machine? I ask because, by default, Windows 64-bit uses the 64-bit ODBC driver when you set up an ODBC connection, which won’t work with Maximo 4.1.1.

The 32-bit ODBC driver is there in the Windows folder (I think – but it’s there somewhere, anyway). You have to specifically use that to set up the ODBC connection in order for that to work.

Thanks for your response Shannon.  We are using 32-bit on the Maximo application and Database server.  I don't know if this could cause an issue, but Maximo and the SQL Server databases are on 2 different physical machines.

Thanks,

You said SQL Server, and ODBC – are you on a 64-bit machine?  I ask because, by default, Windows 64-bit uses the 64-bit ODBC driver when you set up an ODBC connection, which won’t work with Maximo 4.1.1.
The 32-bit ODBC driver is there in the Windows folder (I think – but it’s there somewhere, anyway).  You have to specifically use that to set up the ODBC connection in order for that to work.

Kevin,
There was a bug in the 4.1 setup that caused issues with MaxEncrypt and PsdiPub - I didn't think it affected SQL Server but I'm wondering if you're having a similar issue? Can you check and see if you have a "maxencrypt" table and if you do, is there more than one line in it?
Additionally did you by any chance change the Maximo password from outside of Maximo (E.G. it was working and now it doesn't, or your trying to setup a new environment??)

Thanks for your quick response. I did everything on the IBM checklist you enclosed on your below email a few days ago and found nothing wrong. I checked the ODBC DSNs and nothing is new or looks unusual.
Thanks,

Kevin,
Just to confirm; you can, with your ID login via Maximo to all the databases from your machine?
However if you use another person's ID doing the exact same thing, you get a "cannot connect as PSDIPUB" error?
Is this consistent, meaning the same user cannot access the same Maximo instances consistently and they can access the ones that work consistently and without problems?
Does it happen in groups of users - E.G. 15 users cannot access Maximo dB1 but all 15 can access dB2? Or is it scattered around, some can access and some can't without apparent rhyme or reason??

Thanks Will.
As you suggested, I went into 4 of our databases and checked the entries in the "maxencrypt" table.  Below is what I found in the 4 tables.  The top 2 entries came from Maximo databases that my users have no problem opening in Maximo and doing work.  The bottom 2 are databases that the users cannot get into and receive the 'Could not cvonnect as PSDIPUB' error message.  As far as I can see, the table entries look fine.

I should also mention that I recently took over supporting Maximo from another IT person.  This person would create new databases, for new locations, by copying existing databases of location that closely resembled the new location.  I don't know if this could create an issue.  I went through the copy and create process for a new 2 new databases and one the users can get into and 1 they cannot.  I could send you a word file containing the process if you it might help,.

Thanks for your help,

Subject: Re: [MAXIMO List] Could not cvonnect as PSDIPUB - Error

Thanks for your help,
Kevin

Kevin,
There was a bug in the 4.1 setup that caused issues with MaxEncrypt and PsdiPub - I didn't think it affected SQL Server but I'm wondering if you're having a similar issue? Can you check and see if you have a "maxencrypt" table and if you do, is there more than one line in it?
Additionally did you by any chance change the Maximo password from outside of Maximo (E.G. it was working and now it doesn't, or your trying to setup a new environment??)

We are not using Oracle for Maximo's database.  We are using SQL Server 2000 V8.00.761.  We do use Oracle for other applications, but not for Maximo.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your quick response.  I did everything on the IBM checklist you enclosed on your below email a few days ago and found nothing wrong.  I checked the ODBC DSNs and nothing is new or looks unusual.
Thanks,
Kevin

Have you tried all of the suggestions here http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21262561 in particular check for Gupta.ini and that nobody has created new ODBC DSNs.
Chris.

Maximo is running on a server and all users have a remote desktop id into that server. No one has the Maximo client installed on their local machine. Once logged onto their Remote Desktop id on the server, everyone uses the same id and password to login into Maximo databases through Max411.exe.

I have a new remote server ID and can log into any database successfully. However, if I log into another users remote desktop id from my maching, I get the error on the same databases they get the errors. The error appears to be related to a users remote desktop server id/account.

Did you want me to send the file to another email address? If so, I didn't see an address in the below email. I could have missed it.
