DUPLICATE WORKORDERS, V.4.1.1

From: Big D (2013-02-22 18:51)

In workorders, the dialog box that pops up to show 'other' inprogress workorders with the same problemcode currently is sorted oldest to newest. Is there a way to change that sort, newest to oldest? We end up duplicating workorders because sometimes the dataset is so long that our inputers don't scroll to the bottom of the list.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Dallas

Hi Big D,
Seems that there are only a few of us left still using 4.1.1.
Quick question is that there is an "autokey" on the WONUM field (see table "AutoKey") and I wonder why you are not using it - this will prevent any duplication and save you from further customisation. Further if you still have a problem of people manually inputting the WONUM then you can always stop this at DB level.
Please feel free to contact me directly and let's see if we can get you sorted out.

I believe he means duplicate as in two differently numbered work orders for the same problem.
You have to make the change in Object Nationalizer (screen editor) - it should be possible to do, might have a performance impact if your list is that long (are we talking 10 wo's or 1000 wo's??) - would it be possible to add to your failure hierarchy and perhaps minimize the number of INPRG work orders that need to be scrolled through? (might be a re-training nightmare?)

Thanks, I'll pass that on to our System Administrator. We're talking low numbers maybe 25 workorders max. Our failurecodes are in pretty good shape. We seem to have the biggest problem on work requests that might be seen and called-in by many people (i.e. plugged toilets, lights out, etc etc). Like other organizations we have our workdesk doing more than just generating workorders, so when calls come in they don't spend the time to research before generating another workorder. Obviously an in-house training problem but a resorting of the 'inprogress' workorder dialog box would be helpful.
